GPA Calculator — Free Online Tool
Your GPA is a credit-weighted average of your grades. Add each course with its grade and credit hours below, and get your semester GPA on the standard 4.0 scale instantly.
What is the GPA Calculator?
GPA (Grade Point Average) condenses a semester of work into one number — but it's not a simple average of grades. Each course contributes in proportion to its credit hours: an A in a 4-credit class counts twice as much as an A in a 2-credit class. That's the “weighted” part, and it's why credit hours matter as much as grades.
The standard US 4.0 scale maps A+ and A to 4.0 down to F at 0.0, with plus/minus steps in between. Some high schools add extra weight for AP or honors courses (a “weighted GPA” above 4.0) — this calculator uses the unweighted college scale. To project a cumulative GPA, combine this semester's points and credits with your prior totals.

Frequently asked questions
What is a good GPA in college?
Generally 3.0+ is solid, 3.5+ is strong for competitive programs and scholarships. Requirements vary by school and major.
How do I raise my GPA?
Since GPA is credit-weighted, prioritize high-credit courses and retake classes where your school replaces the old grade.
What's the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?
Unweighted caps at 4.0. Weighted GPAs give bonus points (e.g. 5.0) for AP/honors classes to reward rigor.
Do plus/minus grades affect GPA?
At most schools, yes — an A− (3.7) counts less than an A (4.0). This calculator includes plus/minus values.
